A frame with a family photo is the perfect gift for any occasion, such as Mother's Day, Grandparents' Day, or Valentine's Day. Our idea is not only handmade from the heart, but also holds a unique surprise. When it gets dark, the frame can be transformed into a lamp that gently illuminates the photos and the room inside. Find out how.

  • Four photo frames
  • Double-sided tape
  • Battery-powered "Christmas tree" lights
  • Cardboard
  • Scissors

Step 1

Print out your chosen family photos. To create a glowing effect on the frame, the photos should be printed on paper that allows light to shine through. Regular copier paper is sufficient, but if your printer can also print on other surfaces, you can print the photos on white tracing paper or other semi-transparent paper – this will enhance the glowing effect.

Step 2

Place the printed photos in the frames. Secure them with metal plates without replacing the cardboard backings.

Step 3

Apply a strip of double-sided tape to one long, rear edge of the frame, and then adhere the next frame to it at a right angle. Repeat this process for all frames. On each frame, the tape will always be adhered to the same back panel, and the next frame will always be attached to it with its side edge.

When gluing the last frame, remember to have two walls with tape on them.

Step 4

Place the finished frame on a piece of cardboard, tracing the bottom of the frame onto it. Cut out the cardboard, cover all edges with double-sided tape, and then stick the frame onto it. This will prevent the lamps inside from falling out when the frame is moved.

Step 5

The frame is ready, now all you need to do is insert a string of small battery-powered Christmas lights into it, so that the photos will be charmingly illuminated in the evening.

Frame - Lamp is a great idea for a handmade gift for parents or grandparents, e.g. for Valentine's Day.
