This fun activity isn't just for Easter. If your kids are bored, just a few household items can quickly create an engaging and simple activity that will bring them lots of laughs. Find out how to play Easter egg hunt.

  • Tray or flat container
  • Self-adhesive tape
  • A spoon for every child
  • A bowl for each child for the items they caught
  • Styrofoam eggs, pompoms, "Hansel" beans or other small items

Step 1 - Prepare the tray

To create the game, we need a flat container, such as a tray or cuvette. Cover the top of the container with colored tape. Crisscross the individual strips of tape to create various, irregular windows.

Step 2 - Pour in the goodies

Once we have a tray ready, we pour in small items for the children to fish out. For an Easter version, these could be foam eggs. If you like, you can also use other items, such as dried "Hansel" beans, pom-poms, or even small toy figurines.

Step 3 - Let's have fun

Now all you have to do is grab your spoons and fish out as many eggs as you can. Each child drops their finds into their own bowl. The child who fishes out the most treasures wins.

Rules

Depending on the age of the child, you can introduce additional elements to the game, e.g.

  • Cannot hold the tray
  • It is not allowed to break the tape - doing so will result in disqualification of the player or -10 points
  • You cannot drop an egg on the table, it may mean e.g. -1 point

Game mode - Competition

Children compete against each other. The child who catches the most items wins.

Game mode - Co-op

You set the timer for, say, 1 minute, and during that time, the children fish out the prizes. By working together, the children can win, for example, as many treats as they collect eggs.
