A pompom bunny is a simple DIY project for kids who want to try their hand at yarn. The skill of making pompoms will be useful in many projects at preschool and school, and the fluffy bunny can become a charming Easter table decoration.

  • Yarn in the color of your choice
  • Cardboard
  • Plastic foam or a sheet of technical block in the color of the yarn
  • Self-adhesive movable eyes
  • Scissors

Step 1 - Create a template for the pompoms

First, create a template for making the pom-poms. For this, we need thick paper or cardboard. Cut out two smaller circles and two larger ones, leaving a hollow center in each and cutting out a small section of the hoop.

Step 2 - Making pompoms

Place two hoops of the same size together to form a single unit. Then, wrap the yarn around them lengthwise.

The next step may require a parent's help to ensure our beautiful pompom is tied efficiently and doesn't lose its tufts. We thread a longer piece of yarn between the cardboard pieces, for example, using a safety pin. The ends should be pulled out of the template when it's cut open. At the top edge of the template, we cut the yarn wound around the template and neatly tie it with longer strings.

The secret to a beautiful pompom is to make all the strings the same length, creating a round, even ball. Be careful not to cut off the longer strings used to tie the pompoms.

This creates two pom-poms: a smaller one for the bunny's head and a larger one for its body.

Step 3 - Creating the Easter Bunny

To create a bunny out of pom-poms, simply tie the two pom-poms together and add a few accessories. Using the longer strings we used to secure the pom-poms, tie them together.

Cut out two small bunny ears from the blue craft paper. For an even better effect, make them from a sheet of plasticine foam. Glue the finished ears into place on the smaller pom-pom.

It's time to glue the bunny's eyes on. You can use fun wiggle eyes for this. Add other accessories of your choice, such as a beaded nose or a ribbon around the neck.

The bunny is ready; now all that's left is to find the perfect spot for it, where it will delight the eyes of everyone in the household. It can successfully decorate a basket, Easter table, or a child's room this Easter.
