The magic of winter isn't limited to Christmas, which ushers in the darkest and coldest season of the year. To survive winter, it's worth preserving your Christmas spirit throughout the rest of the season and celebrating every winter day.

Take care of yourself and your family

During winter, we should take special care of ourselves and our families, not only physically and health-wise. Our mood is particularly susceptible to decline during this period, due to, among other things, reduced access to life-giving sunlight and reduced physical activity – it's not without reason that the so-called "saddest day of the year" is January's Blue Monday. Find out how to avoid Blue Monday . The best way to stay in good spirits during the shortest days of the year is to spend time together as a family, engaging in physical and sporting activities, while also remembering to rest and relax at home. Here are the best winter suggestions for family activities.

Fun in the snow

As soon as the snow appears, every little one immediately wants to go outside. Don't waste time (the snow can disappear quickly) and get out into the fresh air. The most popular snow games are, of course, building a snowman, sledding, and snowball fights. Sports enthusiasts should definitely take advantage of the city's ice rink or head to the nearest ski lift (ski lifts are available not only in the mountains). Even a simple walk amidst beautifully snow-covered trees and falling snowflakes will bring you plenty of joy.

Winter holidays - a trip to the countryside or the mountains

Winter is also a wonderful time to relax away from home. Choose a destination with snow and enjoy attractions like a sleigh ride. You'll find interesting options in Zakopane, where you'll be welcomed by Snowlandia, complete with a snow maze and castle. Another unique option is sailing on the ice on the Masurian lakes. Spending Christmas or winter holidays in a cozy mountain house surrounded by stunning nature will be a pleasant change and a wonderful way to relax.

Places worth visiting in winter

  • Snowlandia, Zakopane
  • Christmas markets, larger cities
  • Year-round amusement parks, such as Mandoria - the largest indoor amusement park in Europe and Majaland
  • The winter edition of Energylandia in Zator
  • Bałtów Tourist Complex - Santa's cottage and the elf town
  • Thermal pools and tropical water parks, e.g. Suntago
  • Gardens of lights and urban street illuminations, e.g. Łazienki Park in Warsaw
  • Children's learning centers in Warsaw, Gdynia and Toruń
  • Forest railway in the Bieszczady Mountains
  • Theaters and museums
  • Ice rinks
  • Indoor artificial slope - Capital Ski in Warsaw
If you're not a fan of commercial attractions, hiking in the snow-covered mountains is perfect for you. Put on warm jackets and comfortable shoes and explore Poland's most beautiful mountains in their winter glory. Consider further afield, for example, to Lapland, to Santa Claus Village. You'll find incredible attractions there that aren't available in Poland, such as a reindeer farm, husky sledding, an elf factory, snowmobiling, and viewing the Northern Lights.

What to do when there is no snow - long walks with the family and indoor sports

In the absence of snow, it's still worth spending as much time outdoors as possible. A simple walk through the forest with a thermos of warm winter tea is a wonderful pleasure. A winter forest hike also has the advantage of allowing you to venture beyond the marked paths without fear of stumbling into cobwebs or encountering a bloodsucking tick. Another way to avoid the problem of excessively warm temperatures is to head to a covered ski lift or ice rink.

Winter attractions indoors

A fun way to spend winter days indoors is to visit amusement parks. These are open not only during the summer season, especially those parks that offer indoor roller coaster rides, such as Majaland and Mandoria. Besides carousels and other typical attractions, you'll have the chance to encounter Santa Claus and the elves during the winter season.
A completely different atmosphere awaits you at water parks. Here, you can experience aquatic adventures in tropical settings and bask in the sauna and jacuzzi. Young scientists and artists will have fun at science centers, such as Eksperyment in Gdynia, or in museums and theaters. Check out what additional attractions these places have prepared for children, for example, the National Opera, which hosts regular opera classes for children.

Winter in the city

Winter in the city, even without snow, can still be beautiful and cheerful. Check out our suggestions.

Winter Lights Show

Walking around the market square will allow us to admire the stunning street illuminations. Some cities even have special gardens of lights, such as in Warsaw's Łazienki Park. An evening stroll through the neighborhood will also bring us a variety of aesthetic experiences. Gaze at your neighbors' balconies and gardens and have fun appreciating their Christmas tree decorations.

Winter city attractions

Check out the nearest municipal ice rink or ski slope. Contrary to popular belief, they are also available in cities, such as Górka Szczęśliwicka in Warsaw. If necessary, swap your outdoor sports attraction for one located indoors.

Christmas markets and seasonal delicacies

Plan a special outing with seasonal treats. Perhaps you could visit a local Christmas market, where you can enjoy delicacies like lard-filled bread, chocolate-covered apples, or colorful gingerbread. You could also visit a chocolate parlor or café, where you can sample delicious winter teas and hot sweet drinks.
