Can winter in the city be fun? Of course! Especially since the capital's cultural offerings for children are truly rich. Plus, there are plenty of opportunities for active recreation, so you can easily fill your winter schedule. So what are some fun things to do with your child during the holidays in Warsaw?

Holidays at the National Museum

One of the most interesting and extensive activities awaits you at the National Museum in Warsaw. The museum has prepared numerous family workshops, engaging meetings, and youth discussion workshops . This year, many of the activities are linked to the exhibition "Solstice: Paintings of the North 1880–1910." When visiting the exhibition on your own, it's worth using the audio guide prepared especially for children.

A detailed program of events and workshops for children and young people is available here --> Winter Holidays at the National Museum in Warsaw Program

Additionally, the Museum offers free activities (included in the admission ticket) in a special educational space on the first floor, designed for children aged 4-12. No prior reservation is required. Winter coloring pages and stickers are also available in the children's area. The next activities in the educational space will take place on February 26, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. You can join at any time.

If you are visiting on your own with a child, the museum encourages you to use the new educational guide for the permanent galleries, titled "Following the Animal Trail at the National Museum in Warsaw."

Important! Most registration for classes at the National Museum in Warsaw opens at 10:00 a.m. on the Tuesday preceding the event.

Winter in the city - a visit to the Old Town

The Old Town offers many attractions, including for children. Therefore, you can easily organize a longer family trip here, including several points of interest. So, what are some interesting things to do with children in Warsaw's Old Town?

Royal Castle

An undoubted landmark of our capital, every child should experience it. During the winter break, the Castle invites you for a family tour of its extraordinary chambers and nooks and crannies, steeped in history. One of the options for an exciting castle adventure is Conquering the Castle Crown, during which you'll explore the lowest and highest points of the Castle with a guide. You'll also discover secret passages, often inaccessible to visitors. Register for classes --> Winter Break at the Castle 2023

The Castle's offerings are worth taking advantage of year-round. The royal residence invites families with children to regular activities throughout the year. You'll find activities for toddlers, workshops for students, and intimate performances based on fairy tales. Activities for families with children at the Royal Castle.

A walk through the Old Town and a slide in the Old Town Square

A stroll through the Old Town is, of course, a must-see when visiting the capital's city center. The Old Town charms visitors both in warmer and cooler seasons. Besides Castle Square with its Sigismund's Column and the beautiful panorama of Praga and the National Stadium, it's worth strolling with your children along Świętojańska Street towards the Old Town Square. Here, you can admire picturesque medieval townhouses and the mermaid statue. In winter, a small ice rink and winter sweet stalls operate around the mermaid. The entire area, beautifully decorated with lights, creates an unforgettable atmosphere. You might also encounter various street musicians, mimes, and organ grinders.

After greeting the mermaid, it's worth strolling over to the Warsaw Barbican and the observation deck along the walls surrounding the Old Town. From there, head towards the New Town Market Square or, in summer, the Multimedia Fountain Park in Podzamcze (open from May to the end of September).

Museum of Warsaw

When planning a trip to the Old Town, it's also worth checking out the Museum of Warsaw, housed in several tenement buildings near the Old Town Square. As part of winter in the city, we recommend the Museum Detective activity. Over the course of two hours, children explore the museum's various rooms, each with exciting detective tasks to complete, such as spotting differences in paintings and their reproductions, finding the right exhibits based on a printout of a small detail, deciphering codes, and much more.

It's also worth checking out the Museum's offerings throughout the year, especially the series of family workshops on old professions. In addition to classes at the main museum, there are also interesting workshops at its branches: the Printing Museum, the Pharmacy Museum, the Syrena Cinema, the Praga Museum of Warsaw, and the Palmiry Museum.

What to do with a child in Warsaw? - visit to Warsaw's Praga district

Visit to the Baj Theatre

You can also plan a fun time with your child in Warsaw's Praga district. We recommend starting your trip with a visit to the Baj Theatre, the oldest puppet theatre in Poland. The foyer's décor will immerse you in a fairytale world. The repertoire includes many interesting options for children up to 3 years old, preschoolers, and elementary school-aged children. For the latter, we highly recommend performances such as "School of Dreams," or "Mr. Kleks' Academy," or "Niesamowite Przygody Skarpetek" (The Amazing Adventures of Socks). The Baj Theatre also offers tours with the curator of the intimate Puppet Gallery – recommended for ages 5 and up.

The Hultajka's Playroom

After a performance at the Baj Theatre or a screening at the Praha Cinema, it's worth heading to the nearby Hultajka playroom at 6 Floriańska Street. Hultajka is a unique play space for children aged 0-10. Its heart is a wooden structure full of nooks and crannies that encourages climbing, swinging, and hiding. Perfect for little hustlers and hustlers. ;) A great alternative to popular playrooms, where plastic, bright colors, and loud music reign supreme. Parents can, of course, accompany their little ones to the playroom or keep an eye on them from the café located on the mezzanine. Hultajka also offers a range of activities and workshops for the youngest – it's worth checking out their website.

Museum of Warsaw's Praga

As the third stop on our trip to Prague, we recommend a visit to the Praga Museum of Warsaw. It's one of the branches of the Museum of Warsaw. The Praga branch often offers exhibitions and accompanying events dedicated to children. Currently, until the end of February, you can visit the Eco-Experimentarium exhibition with your children. This intimate exhibition will help you learn how our small, everyday actions can impact the environment. We highly recommend this exhibition for school-age children. Due to its small size, it will take you about 20-30 minutes to see everything. We recommend visiting this exhibition as a complement to other activities in Praga.

Practical information: Admission to the Praga Museum of Warsaw is free on Thursdays.

Koneser Praga Center

After visiting the museum, it's not far to the Koneser Center. It's a symbol of Warsaw's Praga district, and after a successful revitalization several years ago, it offers many interesting activities, including for children. During the winter season, it houses an ice rink. It's also worth visiting the rink in the afternoon, thanks to the enchanting illuminations. After enjoying the ice rink, it's worth relaxing in one of the local pubs or, for example, enjoying a warming cup of hot chocolate at the Wedel Lounge.

The Koneser also houses the Magic Mind Museum and Illusion Theatre. Open Tuesdays through Sundays.
