Teddy Bear Day, or How the President Saved a Bear

The fact that November 25th is Teddy Bear Day is no coincidence. It all started like this:

"Once upon a time..."—specifically, in 1902, then-US President Theodore Roosevelt went hunting with a group of friends. The day seemed ordinary enough, so no one expected something to happen that would forever change the childhood of almost every child in the world.

During a trip to the forest, a small bear cub was shot. Upon seeing this, Roosevelt objected to the killing of the animal and ordered its immediate release. The story unfolded rapidly. Cartoonist Clifford Berryman witnessed the incident, drew a drawing, and it was subsequently published in The Washington Post. The newspaper was purchased by, among others, Morris Michton, owner of a local toy store. Michton, inspired by the story of the rescued bear, decided to design and sell several teddy bears. These almost immediately found their way into the hands of delighted children, and the toymaker, encouraged by the overwhelming demand, officially requested the president's permission to name the plush toy Teddy. Why? Because Teddy is a diminutive of Theodore, the man to whom the tiny bear owed his life.

This is how the story of the first teddy bear was born, which not only has a name (Teddy Bear), but since November 25, 2002 (100 years since the toy was created) - also its own holiday.

Teddy Bear Day - How to choose a name for a teddy bear?

The growing popularity of the teddy bear quickly turned into a trend of creating teddy bear characters in children's stories. And thus, Winnie the Pooh, Colargol Bear, Teddy Floppy-Ear, and Paddington, among others, were born. What do they have in common? Each has a name! It should be no different with teddy bears. For example, Endo the teddy bear also has a name, and like other teddy bears, he will celebrate his day on November 25th.

One thing is certain: No matter what name your child's teddy bear receives, it will undoubtedly be someone special to them. Someone to love and cuddle. Someone who will help them fall asleep faster, soothe their sadness on bad days, and improve their mood faster than anything else .

A name for a teddy bear - where to get inspiration?

When you give this iconic toy to your child in November, remember to come up with a creative and cute name for him, so he becomes a "rightful" pet teddy bear.

  • Look for inspiration in your child's favorite fairy tales and songs.
  • You can also unleash your creativity and have fun with word building. Create a new word and give your teddy bear a name that no one has ever thought of before!
  • If you're still having trouble coming up with a name for your teddy bear, try dressing him up in some creative ways. Teddy bear hats, aprons, and other clothing can give you plenty of ideas for an interesting name.
  • The appearance of the teddy bear is often a source of inspiration - pay attention to its color, size, what kind of ears it has and whether it has any special features (e.g. a floppy ear like Teddy Bear).
  • Emotions can also be a good guide – what feelings does it evoke when you hug it? The answers can be a ready-made pool of creative names!

Having trouble deciding on just one name? No problem! Your teddy bear can have a different name every day, making it fun and unique.

Teddy bear is the best inspiration

The Endo brand, following the example of teddy bears, aims to be children's greatest friend. It's no coincidence that our mascot is the lovable Endo Bear . Teddy bears have inspired the designs on our clothing for years. The serious bear features in the autumn "Nature is Important" collections, inspiring people to experience nature and protect it. Images of sweet teddy bears: bear cubs, pandas, and polar bears can be found on the clothing from the "Przytulasy" collection.

Sometimes our youngest customers even turn into teddy bears.
