As nature blooms and warmer temperatures arrive, we tend to want to get outside more often. Spring is the perfect time to organize a picnic for children. Fresh air, warm sunlight, and the greenery surrounding nature make a picnic a great activity for children. So how can you organize an unforgettable picnic for children, ensuring both fun and safety?
Planning a children's picnic is a crucial step in ensuring a successful event. Several important aspects should be considered, such as the location, transportation, menu, and list of activities.

Choosing a picnic spot
Choose a location that provides children with adequate space to play and explore. It's a good idea to choose a location that will be new to them; this will spark their adventurous spirit and encourage them to explore. If you want to have a picnic in the neighborhood, for example, in your garden, try to make it a special event. You could, for example, arrange a special spot with beautiful blankets, cushions, and garden lights, or perhaps set up a tent.
Getting to the picnic
Just getting to the picnic can be an adventure. Depending on the distance, you can choose to drive, bike, or hike. If you're walking, it's worth bringing a comfortable backpack instead of a picnic basket. You could also try a more original method of transportation, for example, by train to a park in a neighboring city. The unique nature of transportation will be an additional attraction and a thrilling experience for children.

Menu Preparation
Spring picnics are a great opportunity to serve fresh and healthy snacks. Fruits, vegetables, sandwiches, and crunchy snacks will keep kids energized and entertained all day long.
A good idea for picnic treats would be:
- chopped fresh fruits and vegetables, e.g. carrots, apples, raspberries and blueberries
- apple pancakes or banana pancakes, you can also take some maple syrup with you to pour on them
- sandwiches with your child's favorite toppings
- pre-prepared tortilla sandwiches or spring rolls
- homemade baked goods such as cookies and fruit tarts
- lemonade and water to drink or cold tea
It is also worth taking accessories with you:
- wet wipes for washing hands
- antibacterial gel
- paper plates and cups
- cutlery
- blankets and pillows

How to dress a child for a picnic
When dressing your child for a spring picnic, remember to layer. Choose lightweight, breathable fabrics that will provide comfort during temperature changes. It's also important to ensure your child's comfort, as they'll likely want to spend the day not only eating and lazing on a blanket, but also engaging in physical activity and play.
A boy will feel perfect in shorts and a short-sleeved T-shirt , and a girl in a similar outfit, i.e. shorts and a short-sleeved or strappy blouse, as well as in a summer dress with a simple, comfortable cut .
It's also a good idea to provide children with zip-up sweatshirts and a baseball cap or hat . Don't forget sunscreen and an umbrella, which will come in handy in case of a spring shower.

What to do with kids on a picnic - Spring activities for kids
A picnic is not just about food, it is also a time for fun and physical activity.
Here are some ideas for spring activities for kids:
Playing Frisbee
Throwing a frisbee is a great way to stay active and have fun outdoors. Children can race and catch the frisbee, and hone their throwing and catching skills.
Treasure Hunt
Organizing a small treasure hunt is a great way to get children interested in nature and encourage them to explore their surroundings.

Picking flowers and making wreaths
Admiring nature in bloom is a fantastic experience. Girls will especially enjoy gathering beautiful bouquets of wildflowers and weaving wreaths.
Observing nature
Play naturalist and try to spot animal tracks. You might find frogs near rivers and ponds, it's worth keeping an eye out for pheasants and other birds in the fields, and in the forest you might even spot a larger animal, like a moose.
Games from my parents' childhood
One last interesting idea is to teach your children some less common games that you yourself played as children. This could be playing bubble gum, hide-and-seek, or simply climbing trees.
Organizing a spring picnic for children can bring joy and lifelong memories. Plan the venue, food, and activities accordingly, and your child will have an unforgettable experience full of fun and exercise in the fresh air.
