- Paper cup or toilet paper roll
- Foil, e.g. food foil or wide, transparent adhesive tape
- Rubber band
- Foil markers and felt-tip pens
- Scissors
STEP 1 - Preparing the projector base, i.e. the cup
How to make a simple DIY projector? Start with the projector's base. We'll use a regular paper cup for this. You can also use a toilet paper roll. Cut out the bottom of the cup with scissors so you can see through it.
STEP 2 - Apply the foil
First, prepare pieces of foil cut into large squares. You can use cling film or, like we did, the foil used to wrap Endo clothes. Place the foil over the wider part of the cup and secure it with a rubber band. Another option—instead of foil—is to use wide, clear adhesive tape. Simply apply it to the cup, eliminating the need for a rubber band.
STEP 3 - We create pictures
Once the foil is stretched, we can start decorating. We draw pictures based on any theme. In our case, we're using Christmas themes: Santa Claus, a snowman, a star, a bauble, and a Christmas tree. It's best to use foil markers to create the outlines, as they won't wear off. You can fill in the image with regular felt-tip pens, which will add a pop of color.

STEP 4 - How to make a DIY projector? - Time to have some fun with a flashlight
Once your projector is ready, simply add a light source—a flashlight or a phone with a flashlight. Now you can let your child have fun and freely project images onto various surfaces. You can play theater, create stories, and add sounds and voices. This simple activity develops many skills—it hones visual perception, develops vocabulary and articulation, and even develops storytelling skills.
